Orthodontic Q&As

Having your dream smile ahead of you might be a good enough motivator for some, but others like knowing a little before heading down the path. That’s why our team at Mack Orthodontics has compiled some orthodontic FAQs to provide expert insight. Let us dive right into some of these common questions.

Question: What Treatment Options Can I Consider For My Needs?

Answer: With two primary treatment options, fixed and removable, orthodontic treatment has never been more comfortable and affordable. Fixed appliances like metal and clear braces work to improve those with more challenging issues or provide a slightly faster fix. Removable appliances, such as Invisalign, give an almost invisible approach to fixing problems while still being as effective as braces. Depending on your orthodontic condition, our team will work with you to find if a fixed or removable solution will help you.

Invisalign – The Invisalign system is the new kid on the block, providing a modern and proficient solution. Stepping away from the wires and brackets of the past, Invisalign straightens your teeth using a series of aligners, custom fitted using our high-tech iTero digital scanner to create a 3D image of your mouth. Not only does this do away with the uncomfortable impression molds, but Invisalign is also made to be removable, setting forth a new freedom that braces couldn’t offer.

Metal Braces- Metal braces are more cost-effective and comfortable than ever before. They’re perfect for all ages, providing treatment in a smaller, more aesthetically pleasing package. We aim to move your teeth comfortably and precisely. Customize your elastic bands with tons of colors, and wear your style with a smile.

Clear Braces – Clear braces, also known as ceramic braces, pack the same punch as metal braces but with a sleek and discreet approach. Clear braces will preserve your natural smile more clearly and present, and they’re the same size and shape as metal braces. However, they can sometimes be more fragile and expensive than metal braces, meaning we typically recommend them for older teens and adults. Clear braces are perfect for those seeking a minimal yet effective fixed-placed option.

Question: What can orthodontic treatment do for me?

Answer: With our team on your side, working with you to solve your problems is the name of the game. From crooked teeth, over and underbites, or even just the pain from a misaligned jaw, our goal is to provide treatment specific to your wants and needs. But the game doesn’t stop at fixing the issues; we want to walk you through the plethora of advantages that come with our care.

Benefits such as:

  • Creating an easy-to-clean area reducing tooth decay
  • Fostering robust and healthy tooth function
  • Reinforcing a firm, healthy bite, making talking and chewing easier

And with children and adults alike able to come in for treatment, there has never been a better time to come in for a free consultation to find the best course for you.

Question: How should I care for my teeth once I have braces or Invisalign?

Answer: Proper care is essential for long-lasting and effective treatment. Depending on your treatment, different steps will be needed to keep your smile healthy and happy.

Cleaning Braces: With fixed appliances, such as metal or clear braces, you’ll have new obstacles to work around when brushing, flossing, and rinsing your teeth. Make sure you get orthodontist-approved brushes, pastes, and washes to keep your teeth clean and clear of debris or plaque. Regular cleaning, flossing, and ensuring your teeth stay strong and healthy will ensure your braces keep working efficiently.

Invisalign Cleaning: With removable appliances like Invisalign, you’ll have new freedoms to manage, like removing your aligner when drinking beverages other than water, when you’re eating, and when cleaning your teeth. You’ll also have a new set to pop in every two weeks to keep your smile on track.

Question: What can I anticipate during my free consultation?

Answer: Whether you’re a kid or an adult, the first visit to the doctor’s office can always be a stressful, anxiety-inducing moment, but we’ll do everything we can to make you comfortable. When you enter our office, we’ll happily show you around our state-of-the-art facility, making sure to meet our fantastic team, including our orthodontist, Dr. Mack.

We’ll make sure during your consultation that you’ll get the following:

  1. We’ll review your medical and dental history.
  2. Do a complete oral examination.
  3. Determine what treatments are appropriate for you (If any are needed).
  4. Craft a personalized treatment plan with an estimated schedule.

We’ll also take some digital photographs of your teeth to prepare Dr. Mack for your private consultation in one of our exam rooms, where he’ll review your unique treatment plan. We’ll walk you through every step of the process, explaining timelines, expected levels of discomfort, and financial options in only about one hour. Our goal is to ensure you’re prepared, informed, and comfortable about your treatment plan.
